Seven Seas Import Shop recently opened at 512 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. Gary Underwood, owner and operator, said the store offers unique products for local gift-seekers.
"We carry curios, figurines, clothes, jewelry and antique reproductions," he said.
"We import directly from places like Asia and Mexico. Ninety-five percent of the stuff we carry is handmade and hand painted so it's not usually available in the Midwest."
Underwood hit upon the idea of opening an import shop after traveling extensively.
"I noticed that people want unusual, unique gifts."
Underwood began organizing the shop in January and, since opening, has had to reorder stock.
"We've already had a lot of business in the first week. We sold out of 40 different types of handmade pottery," he said.
