Southeast Missouri State University will be visited this week by an eight-person review team from the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges.
The association is a regional accrediting body.
The visit comes as the university seeks re-accreditation.
The last NCA review of Southeast occurred in October 1990 and led to a 10-year re-accreditation.
NCA accreditation is important for federal student financial aid, the transferring of courses, and admission to professional and graduate schools, university officials said.
The visit will occur Monday through Wednesday.
Open forums for students and faculty will be held Tuesday. The team will conclude its visit by noon Wednesday.
