Southeast Missouri State University has experienced its 19th consecutive year of enrollment growth, according to a news release from the university.

When the fall 2013 semester began Monday, 11,367 students were enrolled -- a 2.1 percent increase from last year, the university reported Tuesday.

For the first time in the university's history, the enrollment of African-American students exceeds 1,000, the news release said. Its Hispanic student numbers increased by 10 percent from last year and international student enrollment grew by more than 100 students.

The university also saw growth in its online-only enrollment, with 971 students enrolled solely in online classes this fall. More than 300 high school students are enrolled in dual credit courses, many of which can be taken online, the university said.
