More than 85 employers are registered to meet juniors and seniors of all majors at the annual Career and Internship Fair set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Southeast Missouri State University's Student Recreation Center-North, a university news release said.
Employers committed to attending include the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis; Ameren; regional school districts; Robinson Construction Co.; TG Missouri; US Bank; KFVS-TV/WQWQ-TV; the Southeast Missourian; Rust Communications; BKD CPAs and Wealth Advisors; the Missouri State Highway Patrol; and the Social Security Administration, the release said. A complete list is available at semo.edu/careers/46327.htm, according to the release.
Employers may sign up free at semo.edu/careers/fairs_events.htm. The fair moved to the Student Recreation Center-North from the University Center to accommodate growth, said Joyce Hunter, outreach and events coordinator for Career Services. The event also will offer several new elements.
Students do not need to register, but are required to dress professionally for admission. Students not dressed professionally will be turned away. For men, professional dress includes a dress shirt, tie, slacks, dress shoes and socks. For women, dress blouses, jackets/twin sweater sets, modest length skirts, dresses, pantsuits, dress shoes, etc., the release said. Low-cut, tight or midriff shirts are not acceptable; it will be acceptable for men and women to wear collared shirts, khaki pants, Dockers and dress shoes, the release said.
Unacceptable attire includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, tight, torn or low-cut clothing, jeans, sweatpants, workout clothes, shorts, athletic shoes or any other dress seen as unacceptable by staff members for Career Services, according to the release.
A Kick-Starter Networking Reception, an unstructured professional networking event, is new this year and scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Show Me Center meeting rooms. Professional dress is required. Interested employers may register at semo.edu/careers/kickstarterform.htm, the release said.
Another new feature is a Career Fair Resume Book. Students may submit a professional resume to the book hosted in REDConnect, Southeast's new e-recruiting system. The resume book enables employers to browse student resumes and contact those who may be a potential fit for jobs and internships offered by employers, Hunter said in the release.
Students who submitted their resume to the Career Fair Resume Book hosted in REDConnect qualified to attend the Kick-Starter Networking Reception. All students who submitted a professional resume for the book in REDConnect will be contacted via email by Career Services with details about this event, Hunter said. Professional dress is required for the reception.
