SEMO, Korean university sign agreement

Southeast Missouri State University signed an agreement Monday with a South Korean college that will establish a dual-degree program between the two schools.

A delegation from Soonchunhyang University traveled to Cape Girardeau to meet with Southeast officials and sign the formal agreement.

The Korean university is a medical school. "Its reputation as a medical school is quite good, one of the best in Korea," said Dr. Adelaide Parsons, director of international programs at Southeast.

Southeast has had an exchange program with the South Korean school for the past year. During that time, Southeast sent five students to study in South Korea. One Korean student has come to study at Southeast, Parsons said.

Southeast students studying at SoonChunHyang University have participated in internships, studied the Korean language and taken courses in Asian studies, said Parsons.

Under the new agreement, initial dual degrees will focus on business administration and Asian studies.
