Southeast Missouri State University, along with 150 other universities nationwide, will participate in Aerobic Fitness Week, which begins Monday.
The universities Thursday night will hold what is billed as the "World's Largest Aerobics Class."
At Southeast, the aerobics class will be held in the Student Recreation Center. Organizers said the university's faculty and staff and the public are encouraged to participate.
Organizers said the purpose of Aerobic Fitness Week is to promote aerobic fitness as a way of life.
The class will be lead by Cindy Patrick, aerobics leader for both the recreational sports department and Southeast Missouri Hospital's Wellness Center.
Aerobic events will be held Monday and Tuesday for Southeast students, faculty and staff. An aerobics obstacle course will be set up in the Student Recreation Center from 7-9 p.m. both nights. A drawing for prizes will be held each evening.
As part of fitness week, a one-mile walk will be held over the lunch hour Wednesday, starting and finishing in front of Academic Hall. Participants can begin the walk anytime between noon and 12:30 p.m.
Drawings for prizes will be held for watches, Fitness Week T-shirts and athletic shoes as part of the various events throughout the week.
