He replaces Dr. Irene Ferguson, who resigned last year to accept a position at the College of Notre Dame in Maryland.

Trent Ball, assistant dean of students and director of minority student programs at Southeast, has served as interim dean this school year.

Baker served as senior student affairs officer and adviser to the president regarding student issues at Jefferson College from 1994 to 2003.

He owns Tri-State Sleep Study Laboratory in North Carolina.
