The Institute for Nursing Excellence at St. Francis Medical Center will host a day-long nursing seminar May 13 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center. The event is part of the medical center's observance of National Nurses' Week and National Hospital Week next month.
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the first seminar session is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. The event is scheduled to end at about 4 p.m., followed by a reception and the dedication of a new nursing library at St. Francis from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
The seminar is designed for health care professionals in a variety of settings, including hospitals, home health agencies, extended care facilities, physician offices and nursing students. The presentations have been approved for six contact hours through the Missouri Nurses Association.
Registration fee is $20 or $5 for full-time students and is free for St. Francis Medical Center employees. Enrollment deadline is Friday.
Seminar topics, "How to be Positive in a Difficult World" and "Women Working with Women (and Men Need to Hear This Too)," will be presented by Estelle Davison-Crews, founder and owner of Davison-Crews Seminars.
During the morning presentation, "How to be Positive in a Difficult World," Davison-Crews will define the relationship between problem resolution skills in a "negative work environment," describe situations that represent a negative impact on the work environment and list communication techniques that can be used to alter negative environmental situations.
Her afternoon seminar "Women Working with Women (and Men Need to Hear this too)" will identify the difficulties women may encounter in establishing working relationships with other women, differentiate between the concepts of "friendly" and "friendship" and define strategies for business skills to promote a positive working environment.
