The Cape Girardeau chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will present "Hobbies for Fun & Profit" on Saturday, April 25.
The workshop is open to the general public. It will be held at Centenary United Methodist Family Life Center at 300 N. Ellis.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. The program will open with a brief talk about the AAUW as a local, regional and national organization.
At 9:30 a.m., Charlene Peyton will lead "Music for Fun and Profit."
Participants can chose from five concurrent workshops at 10 a.m. including: poodle grooming for fun and profit by Sissy Collyer, owner and groomer at Special Touch; make ahead breakfast by Scout leader Avon Crocker; writing for fun and profit by writer Jean Bell Mosley; stitchery by James Parker, retired museum director and artist; and floral designs by Connie Schmidt, floral designer at Knaup Floral.
At 11 a.m., the following sessions are planned: calligraphy by Jan Chamberlain; stocks for fun and profit by Donna Domian, broker with Edward D. Jones; and the complete facial by LaDonia Beggs with Mary Kay Cosmetics.
The conference will conclude with four more programs at 1:15 p.m. They are: beginning smocking by Carolyn Stein; hair styling for fun and profit by Elisa Dominick, stylist for Fay's Hair Tech; stocks for fun and profit by Donna Domian; and calligraphy by Jan Chamberlain.
A number of programs will be two hours in length, including poodle grooming, make ahead breakfast, beginning smocking and hair styling. The remainder of the seminars will last 45 minutes.
Cost for the conference is $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Attendees may participate in as many programs as they wish. If only one session is attended, the cost is $3.
Three workshops include materials that become the property of the participants and require an additional fee: $5 for make ahead breakfast; $5 for beginning smocking; and $2 for calligraphy.

Proceeds from the workshop will be used for the AAUW benefit scholarship and its legal advocacy program, according to Cape Girardeau Chapter President Dr. Frances G. Crowley.
AAUW is open to all college graduates. Regularly scheduled meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month (September through May) at 6:30 p.m. in the Hirsch Community Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
