A Sedgewickville man was killed in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning off Nash Road.
Cape Girardeau police reported that Rickey Paul Jones, 42, died after his pickup truck struck a guard rail and overturned off the Nash Road exit of Interstate 55 shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday morning.
Jones, who was traveling north on I-55, took the Nash Road exit, went across Nash Road and struck the guard rail, police said. As the truck went over the guard rail, the front of the vehicle struck the bottom of the embankment, causing the truck to overturn, the report said.
Jones, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by Cape Girardeau Coroner John Carpenter. His death was the first traffic fatality of the year in Cape Girardeau County.
It was not known whether Jones was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, police said.
