Jesse Boyer, 43, of Sedgewickville is in Cape Girardeau County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond after prosecutors filed charges of unlawful use of a weapon, a Class B felony, and unlawful possession of a firearm, a Class D felony.
Police say witnesses told them Boyer stole a firearm and shot it inside an office area at Delta Quick Mart in Delta.
The crimes allegedly began Sunday, June 9, when a Cape Girardeau County witness reported the theft of a firearm at his residence. The witness told police the weapon was at his home in a dresser before Boyer arrived and was missing after.
The following day, police received information that Boyer had arrived at the convenience store and fired the weapon in the office area. On June 12, police say in a probable cause statement signed by an officer whose name is redacted, two law enforcement officers made contact with a witness who said “Boyer kept unloading and loading the firearm and the firearm discharged into the south wall just west of the door frame.” Video surveillance showed Boyer outside the office door “with what appears to be a handgun in his pocket,” the probable cause statement says. Officers retrieved the bullet from the office wall for evidence.
Judge Frank Miller issued the bond.
Boyer has an extensive criminal history, including a Class C felony assault charge from 2016.
