Wednesday afternoon the Sikeston Department of Public Safety arrested a second suspect in connection with a June homicide.
Kelvin Knight, 22, of St. Louis was arrested after being charged with the murder of Tyrussell Davis.
On June 6 at about 11:10 p.m., Sikeston officers responded to Lee and Welter streets in Sikeston in reference to two subjects who had been shot. At the scene, officers found Davis, 22, of St. Louis shot to death in a vehicle and another subject shot and bleeding in a nearby field. The other victim, whose identity is not being released, is a 22-year-old from St. Louis.
The initial investigation led police to the St. Louis area, where they arrested the first suspect, Tyler Triplett, 26, of Sikeston. Triplett later was charged for his alleged part in this murder and assault. After three weeks, Sikeston officers learned Knight was taken into custody in the St. Louis area by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department, a news release from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety said.
Online court records show in March 2010, Triplett pleaded guilty in Scott County Circuit Court to possession of a controlled substance and was placed on probation. His probation was revoked in December 2012, and he was sentenced to seven years in prison. The same person also pleaded guilty in 2007 in Scott County Circuit Court to domestic assault and theft of under $500, and in September 2012, he pleaded guilty in St. Louis County Circuit Court to driving while revoked. Records also showed in 2012 Knight was charged with second-degree robbery and in 2014 was charged with resisting arrest and property damage.
Knight remained in custody Wednesday night awaiting his arraignment.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Sikeston police at 573-471-4711. Tips may remain anonymous.
