Second firefighter is fired for failing to stop incident

JACKSON, Mo. -- A second Jackson firefighter has been fired because he failed to take action to prevent a reported sexual harassment incident that took place on June 8.

Based upon an internal investigation into the incident, authorities have learned that a part-time firefighter -- already identified as Joel Allen Bockelman -- sent "inappropriate and unauthorized" photos of a female with the Cape County Private Ambulance Service via the Internet.

According to a prepared statement from the city of Jackson, the full-time firefighter, who was not identified, "failed to take appropriate actions to prevent the incident."

According to the statement, the incident occurred while those involved were covering a shift at the fire station.

Jackson fire chief Brad Golden declined to comment. City administrator Jim Roach could not be reached at his office late Friday afternoon.

The incident comes less than six months after a Jackson city firefighter was suspended for sexual harassment.

City officials have said that they don't think this is evidence of a larger department-wide problem of the fire department.
