NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Police in New Madrid were searching Thursday for a missing 83-year-old woman.
The New Madrid County Sheriff's Department issued an Endangered Silver Advisory after a report of a missing woman about 4 p.m. Tuesday at 802 Maple St. in New Madrid, according to a news release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Barbara Stoffer of New Madrid was last seen at 5:18 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 61 southbound in Howardville, Mo. A dispatcher with the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department said it's believed Stoffer and another person were spotted in Stoffer's vehicle about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday near Risco, Mo.
Stoffer drives a green, four-door 1997 Volvo 850 with Missouri license plate number 073-RYW.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and crews from several cities have been searching with helicopters and boats. Anyone wanting to volunteer to help search can go to the New Madrid police station.
A search effort continued at 8 a.m. Thursday with New Madrid County asking Stoddard County to assist with the efforts, according to the sheriff's department.
Anyone with information related to Stoffer's disappearance is urged to call 911 to contact the nearest law enforcement agency or call the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department at 573-748-2516.
