BENTON, Mo. -- The Scott County Sheriff's Office received several reports Tuesday about a person attempting to get money from people over the phone by telling them of a warrant being issued for their arrest.

In two instances, the person posed as a Scott County deputy, according to information from the sheriff's office.

In another instance, the suspect identified himself as Donovan Black, badge number 8739. The suspect attempted to get money via Pay Pal to take care of the warrant.

Incidents of this nature have been reported in Scott and Cape Girardeau counties, according to the sheriff's department.

The suspect is not affiliated with a law-enforcement agency, the sheriff's department said.

Anyone receiving a call of this nature should immediately report it to local law enforcement.
