BENTON -- Sales tax revenue continues to be down in Scott County.
During the regular commission meeting Thursday, officials reviewed the August sales tax report. Current totals are more than $100,000 lower than they were at the same point in 2007, said Jamie Burger, presiding commissioner.
"And we haven't even hit the loss," said Commissioner Dennis Ziegenhorn. He was referring to this month's sunset of the half-cent sales tax, originally passed in 2000 to pay for the costs to construct the county jail.
Commissioners blamed the sluggish economy for the dipping figures. "I just think the downturn is here, too," Burger said.
