SCOTT COUNTY ELECTIONS: SCOTT CITY SEWER BOND APPROVED

SCOTT CITY - Voters in Scott City have approved a $1 million sewer bond to improve and extend the city sewer system.

The bond will allow the city to acquire, construct and improve the city sewer system and help defray maintenance and operating expenses.

The project will be part of proposed wastewater system improvements through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources state revolving fund program.

"This is the first step in fixing the old system that we are currently operating under," said City Administrator Erika Glock.

According to Glock, the city lagoon needs to be demolished because of overflow problems, and a new aeration system needs to be installed.

The bond will also provide for construction of a sewer main along the I-55 outer road for servicing the southern portion of the industrial park.

"We spent a lot of time educating the public about the bond issue," Glock said Tuesday night. "The public will definitely see a benefit."

Glock stated that the bond will on average increase the monthly sewer charge by $2.69 per month.

In other Scott City election news, Rodney Holloway ran unopposed and was elected councilman in Ward 1.

Cindy Uhrhan retains her position in Ward 2.

Incumbent Richard Freed was defeated by Tim Porch for councilman Ward 3.

Bill Barnett won councilman in Ward 4.
