BENTON -- A former U.S. Postal Service supervisor from Sikeston has withdrawn as a Democratic candidate for Scott County assessor.

Jim McGee, 56, said Tuesday that his withdrawal from the race was prompted by "personal reasons."

He did not elaborate other than to say that he felt he would not be able to get out and campaign aggressively for the position.

McGee notified the county clerk's office about two weeks ago that he was withdrawing from the race. His withdrawal at this point leaves longtime incumbent Gerald Inman unopposed for re-election.

In other election news, longtime Scott County Surveyor C.R. Waters, a Sikeston Democrat, has filed for re-election.
