Scott Co. checking report of dead hogs near Chaffee

CHAFFEE, Mo. --Scott County investigators are looking into reports of animal abuse involving a number of dead hogs found on a farm near Chaffee, Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said Thursday.

The number of dead animals found on the premises is not yet known, but the carcasses appeared to have been there for a while, Walter said.

"We're looking into the situation to see whether any criminal action has taken place," Walter said.

The Scott County Public Health Department and other authorities are assisting with the investigation.
