A Scott City woman is accused of assaulting two police officers after causing a disturbance Tuesday morning at Southeast Hospital.

The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Alexandria T. Lawrence, 22, with felony third-degree assault on a special victim and misdemeanor third-degree assault after police said she head-butted and tried to kick officers.

Police first contacted Lawrence shortly before 2 a.m. when an officer went to a call about an intoxicated person at a bar at 38 N. Spanish St., according to an incident report by Cape Girardeau Patrolman Gabriel Yoder.

Lawrence became “verbally aggressive” toward Yoder when he took her into protective custody and was physically uncooperative when they arrived at the police station, Yoder wrote.

At 2:12 a.m., Lawrence several times resisted being put in a holding cell, according to the report.

When officers tried to shut the cell door, Lawrence’s “finger had allegedly been stuck in the door,” but because she did not cry out or say her hand was caught, the officers did not notice, Yoder wrote.

When officers later realized Lawrence’s finger was bleeding, they took her to Southeast Hospital, according to the incident report.

At 4:37 a.m., Yoder responded to a report of a disturbance at the hospital caused by Lawrence, according to a probable-cause statement filed by Yoder.

Lawrence was taken back to police headquarters for protective custody. When officers tried to move her from Yoder’s vehicle to a holding cell, she tried to kick Patrolman Josh Gregory “in the lower midsection,” Yoder wrote.

Yoder and Patrolman Matthew McAlister transferred Lawrence to a padded cell, where before entering, she “threw her head back and head-butted me, striking me on the cheek below my left eye,” Yoder wrote.

Lawrence’s bond was set at $6,000.
