SCOTT CITY -- Scott City will buy a 40,000-watt electrical generator for its 911 emergency telephone service.

The city council has authorized City Administrator John Saxton to decide which generator bid to accept. Saxton will meet with the police and fire chiefs before making a final decision.

The low bid looks compatible with the city's needs, he said. The bids: Royal Electric of Jackson, $13,507 with an automatic switch or $9,327 with a manual; Reli Electric of Cape Girardeau, $10,610 or $7,265; and Dakota Service Co. of Scott City, $7,980 or $4,980.

Saxton said he would buy the generator by Friday.

In other council matters Monday, Chuck and Melanie Todt withdrew their special-use permit request to put a beauty shop in the Cloverdale Subdivision. About a dozen residents of the subdivision commented, some negatively on the matter, at the public hearing.

The council set a vote Jan. 3 on an ordinance to require city employees to live no farther than 10 miles from Scott City.

A Dec. 29 committee meeting has been scheduled to study city finances and the current budget. One item of discussion will be how to financially support the I-66 Project the council endorsed earlier this month.
