A 20-year-old Scott City man was arrested following a chase involving a city patrol car and a four-wheel, all-terrain vehicle reported stolen from the garage of a Scott City residence.

According to police chief Don Cobb, Chad Weatherspoon is in the Scott County jail in lieu of a $15,000 bond. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest by flight.

Cobb said that police had been looking for the stolen ATV for nearly three weeks. They had a description of the vehicle and a description of the person seen taking it. Early Friday morning, Sgt. Joey Hann spotted the vehicle and recognized the driver from the description given to police.

Hann attempted to stop the ATV and the driver rammed the police car, Cobb said.

"The sergeant was able to pin the vehicle against a tree using the passenger side of the car," Cobb said.

Weatherspoon then allegedly took off running and Hann subsequently caught up with him.

The patrol car sustained some damage, Cobb said, but no one was injured.

"A lesser officer may have been, but Joey is top notch," Cobb said. "He took care of everything."
