Scott City man sentenced in federal ID theft case

A Scott City man and his co-defendant were sentenced to federal prison Tuesday for conspiring to commit identity theft. Crystal Weaver, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Greg Seegrist of Scott City were each sentenced to 21 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr., according to the federal prosecutor's office. Weaver, Seegrist and Robert Gould, also of Poplar Bluff, were charged in two counts with conspiracy to commit identity theft and conspiracy to commit use of a counterfeit debit card. Gould was sentenced by Limbaugh on Dec. 10 to 15 months for his role in the scheme.

The defendants were each ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $12,834.60 to Texas Star Bank.

This case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Poplar Bluff Police Department. Assistant Federal prosecutor Paul Hahn handled the prosecution for the government.
