A Scott City man is accused of pushing his wife while she was holding their 2-year-old son.
Derek Robert Lenand, 30, is charged with felony second-degree domestic assault and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. Chaffee, Missouri, police arrested him at midnight Thursday.
The victim called Lenand about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday to babysit their son in Chaffee, according to a probable-cause report from the Chaffee Police Department.
Lenand became angry when he saw some of his photographs sitting outside the residence; the couple had been separated since December, according to the report.
Lenand yelled, pushed, smashed the victim's cellphone and pushed her glasses off her face, the report stated.
Inside, Lenand pushed the victim against an entertainment center near where the 2-year-old child was sitting, the report stated.
The victim struck Lenand in the right side of the face with an unopened can of Monster Energy Drink.
The victim then picked up her son off the floor, trying to protect him from items falling off the entertainment center, according to the report.
Lenand pushed the victim while she had the child in her arms, and the victim was able to place the child on the floor away from the entertainment center, the report stated.
Later, the victim escaped, running with the child in her arms to a neighbor's house to call the police, according to the report.
