SCOTT CITY -- Construction along the Information Superhighway has reached Scott City High School.

Superintendent Doug Berry said the school is upgrading its computer technology labs.

The installation of a Macintosh lab has prompted interest for more computers and classes, he said at a school board meeting Wednesday.

The high school hopes to add a 10-station network directly connected to MOREnet by the beginning of the school year, Berry said.

The school is one of 170 schools that has dial-up access to the MOREnet system. About 50 percent of Missouri schools have access to the program.

By gaining direct access to MOREnet, students will be able to obtain more information quickly. The school is using money from technology grants and other federal funds to minimize its cost.

Ten computers will also be added to the vocational business lab, bringing the total to 24 computers.

"You can see where the money is going," said Board President Gale Dale. "It's a neat-looking lab. It'll be real eye-catching."

Dale said many of the recent projects couldn't have been completed without the community's support.

"I don't think they'll feel so bad when they pay taxes," she said. "We've done lots of good things that couldn't have been done without the community support."

The board also hired two new teachers for the 1995-96 school year.

Kay Hendrix, who formerly taught at the school, was hired as the high school science teacher. Shar Dodd also was hired as the school's special education teacher.

In other business, the board voted to:

--Adopt the 1995-96 budget.

--Set a teachers salary schedule for 1995-96, with a starting salary of $22,000.

--Increase pay for non-certified staff, like bus drivers and custodians. The increase will range from $300 to $600.

--Approve high school curriculum guides for physical education-health and practical arts.
