SCOTT CITY -- Residents of Scott City are being asked to support the regional economy through a buy local campaign sponsored by the high school's Future Business Leaders Association.

The weeklong campaign begins March 4, but club officers are trying to gather support early, said FBLA sponsor Pat Andrews. A club officer and sponsor will answer questions about the program at Tuesday's Chamber of Commerce meeting. A full-page ad also will run in the newspaper before the campaign begins.

Many local businesses should receive letters from the school explaining the program and its benefits. If a business does not get the letter and would like to participate, call the school at 264-2138 for information.

The program doesn't just support local businesses; the students also benefit. The project is entered in local and state FBLA competitions and has won awards in the past.

This year's program might be a little different because more students will be involved. Businesses can request volunteers to work on Saturday if needed. Other new activities include a window-decorating contest and a raffle drawing.

"We wanted to get more student involvement because they are consumers," Andrews said, adding that for every $50 in local receipts students can enter a raffle drawing. "We want to promote Scott City and its businesses."
