A school bus carrying three children was damaged Thursday morning after the driver of a car allegedly ran a stop sign and struck the bus.
The bus was traveling eastbound on Cape Rock Drive around 7:20 a.m. when a small Mercury passenger car allegedly ran a stop sign at the Howell Street intersection and struck the bus in its rear axle, Cape Girardeau police spokesman Darin Hickey said. The bus was carrying three children who were all sitting toward the front of the bus, Hickey said. No injuries were reported, and another bus was sent to the scene to pick up the children and take them to school.
The damaged bus was taking children to Alma Schrader Elementary. School administration alerted parents via text message about the accident. The school uses a text system provided by the Southeast Missourian.
