CAPE GIRARDEAU -- A forum for Cape Girardeau Board of Education candidates will be held Feb. 28 at Washington Elementary School.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

Washington's Parent-Teacher Association and the school district's Community Teacher Association are hosting the forum.

Washington principal James Watkins explained that some questions for candidates will be prepared in advance.

"We will have some student who will ask some of the questions," Watkins said. "This serves as kind of a civics lesson for them."

He said written questions from the audience will also be accepted and will be asked if time permits.

"The PTA would like to see people get involved in helping select good, qualified candidates," Watkins said. "The only way to do that is to learn more about the candidates themselves.

"Sponsoring this forum is a good opportunity to promote that," he said.
