Opening day for school board filing Tuesday prompted a flurry of activity in some jurisdictions and none in others. Filing ends Jan. 21.

In less than two hours, the Jackson School District had seven people file for the three positions up for election April 8, according to information provided by the district. The spots are held by T. Wayne Lewis, Bruce Thomas and board president Terri Tomlin. Starting at 8:02 a.m., candidates filed until 9:50 a.m.

Incumbents Thomas and board president Tomlin have filed for re-election. The hopefuls are Jamie Pfefferkorn Nipper, Kristi Uhrhan, Brad Noel, Will Adams and Larry L. Koenig, according to district information.

For the Cape Girardeau School District, three positions -- held by board president Tony Smee, Don Call and Stacy Kinder -- are up for election. Kinder has said she is not seeking re-election.

On Tuesday, Call and Smee put in their bids, along with Phil Moore, who was on the board for three years. Last spring, three people, including Moore, ran for two spots and Moore was defeated by Adrian Toole and Jeff Glenn, according to the superintendent's office.

Scott City School Board president Scott Amick filed for re-election. The other positions up for election are held by Sally Porch and Daniel Lance.

Three filed for spots on the Nell Holcomb School Board. They include board vice president Tammy Brock, board member Dan Windeknecht and hopeful Christine Tourville. Board treasurer Christie Shivelbine has said she's not running, according to the district.

No one filed for Perry County District 32, something board secretary Barb Hagan said happened once before. The board has three positions available, held by G. Scott Cooper, Jeff Weibrecht and Scott Hotop.

Three board seats also are up in Oak Ridge. They are held by Scott Hahs, board president Linda Schoen and vice president Tom Schreiner. Superintendent Gerald Landewee said the three incumbents filed Tuesday, along with one newcomer, Lindsay Berry.

In Cape Girardeau, office hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will be closed Dec. 23 through 25, and Dec. 27, 30 and 31, and Jan. 1 through 3, according to a legal notice in the Southeast Missourian.
