Craig D. Schnuck can add another piece of Cape Girardeau ribbon to his personal scrapbook.

Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer of Schnuck Markets Inc., clipped his third dedication ribbon Tuesday at the Cape Girardeau Schnucks Supercenter, 19 S. Kingshighway.

The other two are from when the store opened and at its 20th anniversary celebration.

"We're celebrating the opening of a beautiful, virtually new store and our long history of serving customers in Cape Girardeau," said Schnuck. "It's the same dedication to customer service and product variety and value that we brought to Cape Girardeau almost 25 years ago, and it remains our goal today."

Schnuck officials were in Cape Girardeau to celebrate the completion of a nine-month long expansion and remodeling project, adding 12,000 square feet, resulting in the largest grocery supermarket in Cape Girardeau.

Also on hand for the activities was Scott C. Schnuck, president and chief operating officer.

Dennis Marchi, Schnucks manager at Cape Girardeau, was excited about the completion of the remodeling.

Kiefner Brothers Construction served as general contractor.

As many as 200 people were on hand for the rededication, including 18 Schnucks workers who started with the store when it opened almost 25 years ago in November of 1976.

Mayor Al Spradling, Chamber of Commerce director John Mehner, and Southeast Missouri State University Dr. Ken Dobbins all offered their congratulations in seeing the "new" store open.

The present facility features greatly expanded fresh produce department, deli, bakery, service meat and seafood departments, and a new floral department.

The remodeled store also includes an expanded full line grocery, bulk food and nutrition departments.

Scott Schnuck said the store features departments that respond to changing customer lifestyles, like convenient ready-made food items.

An expanded variety of gourmet dine-in and carryout dinners are available. "Grab-and-go" meals for lunch and dinner are available for busy customers. The deli department offers a complete food bar/salad bar, take-out sandwiches, Asian foods, whole roasted chickens and other rotisserie prepared items.

The expanded section of the store opened in January, featuring larger liquor, wine, frozen food, general merchandise and drug departments.

The addition also featured a relocated pharmacy with drive-up window.

Schnuck Markets Inc., founded in St. Louis in 1939, operates 92 stores Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.
