Schlitz has brought home the "Gold."
Schlitz, a product of Stroh Brewery Co. headquartered in Detroit, has been selected as the gold medal winner in the American Lager category at the 1992 Great American Beer Festival held recently in Denver.
Judging was conducted by a panel of professional brewers participating in a blind taste test.
The great American Beer Festival is sponsored by the Association of Brewers, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about beer. One of the goals of the festival is to recognize excellence in brewing by awarding gold, silver and bronze medals to beers judges as superior representatives in their particular categories.
At the blind taste tests, 710 beers in 18 categories were evaluated. Judges, many of them graduates of the National Beer Judge Certification Program, were from the U.S., United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan.
"The recognition Schlitz has received is evidence of our success in meeting and exceeding the expectations of our customers and national panel of independent experts," said Michael Porter, vice president of marketing for the Stroh Brewery Co. "Our Schlitz growing rate has exceeded 30 percent annually over the past four years."
Schlitz is distributed nationally and on six continents. The local distributor is Kohlfeld Distributing Inc. of Cape Girardeau.
