The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band will perform tonight at 8 at Capaha Park with special guest performers Stevie Schaffner and Steve Pirtle.
Schaffner has performed in 48 states, Canada and Japan and with country headliners including Ronnie Milsap, Reba McEntire, George Jones, Holly Dunn and Marty Stuart. He has been a guest at Nashville's grand Ole Opry. Schaffner also is orchestra director for Cape Girardeau public schools.
Pirtle, a member of a local band known as the "Blues All-Stars," is also an instrument technician at Shivelbine's Music. He teaches guitar in Shivelbine's studio.
"Celebrity Guest Conductor" will be Craig Felzien, area manager with Southwestern Bell Telephone and volunteer with the Area Wide United Way. He will conduct Sousa's "El Capitan" march.
Other selections include "Thundercrest March," Chorale and Capriccio," "Clarinet Candy" featuring the clarinet section, "Songs of Sinatra," "Southwest Saga," and selections from the Broadway musical "Bye, Bye Birdie."
The concert is free. Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair.
