SIKESTON, Mo. -- A woman lost nearly $10,000 in a scam this week, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety said.
The woman was at a grocery store on Tuesday when she was approached by two other women, police Sgt. Susan Rockett said. One of the women claimed to have found a large sum of money, and showed it to the victim.
The scam developed as the women convinced the victim to provide her own cash in order to insure the transfer of some bonds. The three women went to three different banks where the victim withdrew approximately $10,000 in cash, because she was promised a return of $30,000.
The women left, and the victim has not heard from or seen them since, police said.
