The Allen Laws Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will hold a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday in honor of Alexander McClain, a Revolutionary War soldier who is the great-great-great-grandfather of Randy McClain of Cape Girardeau. The group will place a SAR marker on the grave of at Apple Creek Cemetery in Pocahontas, Mo.
McClain served in the battles of Kings Mountain, Cowpens and Guilford Courthouse. His grave has also been marked by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Part of the work of the SAR includes partnering with the Red House Interpretive Center and extensive research of the ancestors of club members to prove lineage. According to club president Wendell Miller, there are not that many Revolutionary War veterans buried in this area. The club plans to continue to place grave markers in the future.
For more information, contact McClain at 334-8260.
