With the help of a little overtime, the Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau has hit its Christmas fundraising goal, according to the Christian charity.

This year's campaign raised $320,333.18, according to Maj. Ben Stillwell of the Salvation Army. He said it took a few extra days to reach the fundraising target.

The Christmas goal was $320,000. Last year the Salvation Army raised $311,889.

"[I] would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time, talents and treasures toward the goal of helping the Salvation Army," Stillwell said in a news release. "You have helped the helpless, you have given hope to the hopeless, you have offered food to the hungry and shelter to the homeless."
