Bell ringers will abound in Cape Girardeau and Jackson as the Salvation Army kicks off its Christmas Tree of Lights campaign today.
The goal for this year's campaign is $125,000.
That money will be used to fund Christmas activities and for programs and services through 1994 and during 1995.
Some 4,000 volunteers are expected to contribute their time and effort to bring in food, toys for children and clothing and gifts for patients in nursing homes. The money also will be used to hold parties for needy children.
The Salvation Army is in need of new toys and food for distribution to the needy. Those items can be taken to the Salvation Army at 701 Good Hope. Donations should be mailed to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 802, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0802.
Applications for Christmas assistance will begin Monday. Hours for applications to be picked up or delivered are 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
