Cape Girardeau County commissioners received good news Monday when the county auditor presented them a monthly Missouri Department of Revenue report saying sales tax revenue was up 7.25 percent for the county.

County Auditor David Ludwig presented the figures at Monday's county commission meeting.

February's report included sales tax figures from October, November and some of December, depending on the financing schedule of area businesses. The state also has a 4-to-6 week lag time in getting the figures to the county.

February's reimbursement for the county's half-cent sales tax was $273,003, up from $239,180 last year.

"It is encouraging," Ludwig said.

Presiding Commissioner Gerald Jones agreed. "That's better than it's been in a long time," he said. "It would be wonderful if that would continue."
