ST. LOUIS The Doe Run Company's Fletcher Mine and Mill operations has received the 1990 Sentinels of Safety award, the nation's most prestigious mine safety award in the underground metal category.
The award dates back to 1925 and is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the American Mining Congress.
The Fletcher operations won the award for 19901 for completing 110,704 hours without an injury that caused any employee to lose a day's work.
The Doe Run company, an integrated lead producer which has won the coveted award eight times, operates six mines and four mills near Viburnum, and a primary smelter at Herculaneum.
