A shuttle service for disabled residents of Cape Girdeau County will start operating Tuesday.
The SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence will operate the shuttle service, which is geared to transport mentally and physically handicapped persons to and from work.
SADI will use a donated, handicapped accessible van. Transportation outside of the city of Cape Girardeau will be provided by Cape County Transit during weekdays with SADI footing the bill.
The transit services will be provided Monday through Thursday from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., Friday from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 10 p.m., and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
All riders must register at the SADI office in advance of using the shuttle service the first time, said Miki Gudermuth, executive director of SADI.
To contact the SADI office, call 651-6464.
Upon completion of registration, a 10-ride punch card may be purchased from SADI for $10.
After the initial purchase, the punch cards may be purchased from the shuttle driver, Gudermuth said.
All pre-scheduled rides for employment will take precedence over on-demand calls, she said.
