The official folk orchestra of the Russian state of Leningrad will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Academic Auditorium on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

Metelitsa (pronounced Mah-TILL-it-sa) consists of classically trained musicians who play traditional Russian folk music on traditional instruments.

The instrumentation includes domras, accordions, contra bass, percussion and several types of balalaikas.

Metelitsa (the word's English translation is "snowstorm") was formed five years ago. The orchestra travels the world performing and preserving native Russian folk music and heritage. The musicians also wear costumes that denote the customs of courting, ethnic mores and social position.

Admission is free with Community Concert Association membership or a university ID. General admission is $10.
