After months of construction and a traffic changes, the Ruler Foods at 2103 William St. is having its grand opening today.
The store is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the store looked ready to go. Managers and fellow employees were seen sweeping the sidewalks and dusting the windows in preparation for the big day.
Ruler Foods is a subsidiary of Kroger and moved into the old Dushell's Furniture building. The building is about 20,500 square feet, with an additional 9,500 square feet available for a future retail store.
Ruler Food stores are grocery stores with no pharmacies or fuel centers. They are similar to an ALDI, in that customers bag their own groceries and "rent" shopping carts.
About 80 percent of the products available at the store will be Kroger or Kroger Value items, according to a previous Southeast Missourian article. The store also will carry fresh meat and produce, dairy, frozen foods, nonperishable foods and pet and baby products.
A new traffic signal at William Street and Sheridan Drive became active earlier this week, and stormwater pipe upgrades were scheduled to take place along Good Hope Street, where flooding has been an issue.
