ROSE NAMED OUTSTANDING CAMP AT MUSIC WORKSHOP

Mark Rose of Cape Girardeau was named an "Outstanding Music Camper" during the third week of summer music camp at Southeast Missouri State University.

Rose, the son of Claude and Mildred Rose of Cape Girardeau, was one of 18 students to receive the awards, which were determined by camp instructors and based on performance and attitude.

About 800 elementary, junior high and high school students participated in the weeklong camp July 21-26. The students were divided into bands, marching auxiliaries and choirs.

This is the 34th year for the camp, which is one of the largest in the nation, according to Barry Bernhardt, director of the summer music camp.
