Could Amy have a date with Oscar?
Rosamund Pike, who played "Amazing Amy" Dunne in the movie "Gone Girl," received an Academy Award nomination for best actress in a leading role when nominees in 24 categories were announced this morning.
Pike's was the only Oscar nomination for the film.
The plot of the movie, which was filmed on location in Cape Girardeau in 2013, revolves around Amy's mysterious disappearance, and suspicions settle on Amy's husband, Nick, played by Ben Affleck.
The movie made its debut in September, and was released on DVD earlier this week.
Overlooked among nominees was director David Fincher, who in 2008 was nominated for the Academy Award for best director for films "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and in 2010 was nominated for "The Social Network," for which he won the Golden Globe Award for best director.
Also overlooked was Affleck, who has won two Academy Awards, for writing and producing, and three Golden Globe Awards for his work as a director, writer, and producer.
Both Pike and Fincher were nominated for Golden Globes, the awards presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that were handed out Sunday. Neither won.
Academy Award winners will be announced Feb. 22 in a live broadcast hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, who portrayed Desi Collings in "Gone Girl."
