Heavy ice and snow from last week's storm caused a roof to collapse at Blair Packaging at 24 S. Sheridan Blvd. in Cape Girardeau, and it could be six to eight weeks before the roof is repaired.

Marketing director Joe Bullock said the company's vacuum-forming capabilities and high-speed manufacturing are at a standstill. Because of the instability of the roof, the company is unable to retrieve equipment.

The company, which employs 70, manufactures vinyl media packaging, clamshells, ring binders and other flexible vinyl products.

Bullock said all employees have relocated to Scott City until repairs are complete.

"This could have a devastating impact on the long-term viability of our business," Bullock said. "We are currently working with a few of our 'friendly competitors' in Missouri to offload our current work."
