Robbery turns to carjacking when suspect flees

An armed robbery at Westfield Shoppingtown West Park turned into a carjacking Friday evening on Bloomfield Road when a fleeing suspect wrecked his car, then shoved a woman out of her four-wheel-drive vehicle, witnesses said.

The suspect led police on a high-speed chase through town, which ended after the stolen car was broadsided by a Kelley Transportation van on Sprigg Street.

The suspect fled on foot and was cornered by police behind Southeast Missouri State University's facilities management building.
