A man who admitted to robbing another man at gunpoint was sentenced Friday to six months in the county jail. Dameon W. Oakley, 22, of 43 N. Henderson Ave., received the sentenced during an appearance at the Perry County Courthouse before Circuit Judge Benjamin Lewis. Oakley was charged with first-degree robbery for using a handgun to rob a man of cigarettes and $94 cash in an alley behind 1424 William St. on Nov. 1. Before Lewis handed down the sentence, Oakley apologized to the court, claiming he would never commit another crime and would use this lighter sentence as an opportunity to turn his life around. "This is pretty much my last chance to do it," Oakley said. He could have received up to 30 years for the crime. Lewis agreed, warning the defendant that should he commit another felony and be convicted, he would likely receive a prison sentence in the Department of Corrections.
A 40-year-old man charged with molesting a 4-year-old girl pleaded innocent to the crime Friday. Robert J. Oswald, of 5201 N. U.S. 61 in Perryville, is charged with statutory sodomy and child molestation. According to police, the victim said she Oswald inappropriately touched her November 20. After entering his plea, Circuit Judge Benjamin Lewis scheduled Oswald to appear back in court March 17.
