The Cape River Heritage Museum will open for its 2015 season Saturday.
Guests are invited to visit the museum from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the old police and fire station at 538 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau.
Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children. The museum's regular hours will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
The museum has exhibits on Marie Oliver, designer of the Missouri state flag; Willard Vandiver, originator of the "Show Me" state slogan; Louis Houck, railroad entrepreneur; Louis Lorimier, founder of Cape Girardeau; Col. G.C. Thilenius and his historic home Longview; and American Indian culture. Also on display will be children's antique dolls, toys and furniture and police and fire memorabilia, including two fire trucks.
The museum's speakers series begins April 4 and continues through November. Dr. Frank Nickell, Chief Paul White Eagle and Judge Stephen Limbaugh Jr. are among this year's featured speakers.
Each presentation begins at 11 a.m. Saturday mornings, and admission is free.
