One lane of southbound Interstate 55 was closed from mile marker 96 to mile marker 99 for almost 40 minutes Wednesday evening as emergency crews responded to a report of an accident at 6:38 p.m.
A tractor-trailer had come to rest in a ditch after running off the right side of the roadway, striking two signs in its path.
No one was injured in the wreck. The driver was taken to a hospital for an unrelated medical condition. No other vehicles were involved.
Police and firefighters responded, according to Cape Girardeau police spokesman Darin Hickey.
