The puppy known as Trooper is eating and drinking normally. Veterinarians are confident they can save his badly injured right front leg.

The puppy was dragged behind a truck on Nov. 21 on Interstate 55. It happened without the driver's knowledge after someone apparently attached the dog's leash to the truck's trailer hitch.
