SIKESTON -- Motorists who normally use State Route Z, between Arab and Wappapello may want to consider using an alternate route this week to protect their cars and other vehicles.
The Missouri Highway and Transportation Department said work will begin today, resurfacing the blacktop highway between Arab and Wappapello, in Wayne County.
The state will be using an oil-aggregate pre-mix. There will be equipment, flaggers, and warning signs along the road while the work is in progress.
"Motorists should drive slowly and pay attention to the flaggers and signs," a highway department spokesman said. "Those who can avoid traveling on Route Z should do so because it may prevent them from getting oil and aggregate on their vehicle, or possibly even a broken windshield."
The work will be completed by Friday, weather permitting.
Route Z is used by many motorists in this area as a short cut to and from Lake Wappapello.
For additional information on the work, contact Mike Perry at the highway department's district office at Sikeston, 1-472-5333.
